Dead Man’s Cell Phone
Jan 10-11,
Jan 17-19 & Jan 23-25
When a lonely woman
answers a dead stranger’s cell phone, it turns out to be a
wake-up call that sends her on a date with the dead man’s
brother, a drinking binge with his wife, a mysterious rendezvous
with his mistress, and a trip to the afterlife and back.
NOVA presents the quirky comedy Dead Man’s Cell Phone, written
by Sarah Ruhl, opening January 10, 2014.
An incessantly
ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table
who has had enough. And a dead man—with a lot of loose ends. So
begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by
MacArthur “genius” Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist,
Sarah Ruhl, author of past Venture productions The Clean House
and In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play). Dead Man’s Cell
Phone is a piece about how we memorialize the dead—and how that
remembering changes us—it is the odyssey of a woman forced to
confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the
need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.
Dead
Man’s Cell Phone will be performed at NOVA Center for the
Performing Arts, 2317 Montana Avenue, January 10-11, 17-19, and
23-25. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30
p.m. and the Sunday matinee on January 19th begins at 2 p.m.
